LeachLAN 4 - Event Feedback

Postby Shazz » Sun Mar 28, 2010 1:37 pm

First of all, many thanks to all of you who came, we hope you all enjoyed it.

If you would be so kind as to give us hints and tips on the following, so we can make our events a better experience for you;

* What you think we did badly, so that we can improve it for our next LAN
* What you think we did well
* What you would like to see more of at future events.
* Any further comments

Please reply here with your thoughts on how we can make these events better for you! Customer feedback counts!

Once again, thanks to everyone who came, and we look forward to seeing you at LeachLAN 5!

Good
You Guys <3
The pub quiz - For me this is most enjoyable part of the LAN!
Creme Egg's
The new Chinese place we ordered from - The food was awesome! :D

Bad
Lack of sleep last night :(

Ugly
The Chinese not numbering food makes for a sad Shazz. But everyone got what they ordered, and first time too!

Good
  • Woo, games - timetabled games were fun (although AHL2 ftl!) and well-populated.
  • Tournaments didn't suffer from any discernable hiccups, nice prizes.
  • People - with the numbers looking thin for a long time, the extra people 'bring a noob' brought in were a welcome addition - both for their company and their bulking out the servers :)
  • Food - BBQ good as always, as was Chinese.
  • Coming last because it's not down to SWL - LOLTENT! having our mansion, with freshly cooked bacon and coffee in the mornings, made everything all the more epic.

Bad
  • Drive for some tournaments and big games could have been better, but wasn't a massive problem. Nonetheless, having more than 2 teams for the L4D2 tournament would have been nice :)
  • Perhaps state a little more in advance what the prizes for the tournaments are. Obviously the tournaments aren't supposed to be massively competitive, but it would be nice to know what's in it - both as an incentive for people to join in, and so that you don't accidentally get tipsy before a tournament you would actually like the prize for :D (Dan was mentioning this) In the same vein, you might consider shuffling the prizes so that the better ones are for the more competitive games - but there's obviously a balance to be struck between turning LeachLAN into iLeach-series.
  • I've made this known already, but may as well have it here for completeness - I think that the more usual online rules for Armagetron are better - i.e. more fun and less random. Some people might think though that having a tournament where there isn't so much of an obvious "favourite" is a good thing, which the online settings would probably change. If someone wants tech details, collar me on IRC/use Google fu. The main differences are increased rubber (8-12 instead of 1) and decreased turn delay (can't remember exactly, probably about 10 times faster than default)
  • I think there needed to be more communication within the staff about the BBQ - it seemed like it was better organised wrt to getting people in in small groups rather than a massive pile-on, but sometimes (lolrobbo) this seemed to be accidentally sabotaged by someone yelling "GET BURGERS LOL!" Also: not a problem for me because I prefer buggers, but I didn't realise that sausage would be available after buggers, and had already gorged myself on flat round meat rather than long round meat.
  • Also with the BBQ, that "red sauce" needs to be replaced :P It was the same disturbing colour as my Chinese!
  • The TROLOLOLOLOLing probably got over-the-top, and might have pissed off or awoken some people... sorry :/

Ugly
  • My Chinese was fluorescent. It was a similarly disturbing colour and consistency the second time I saw it, although it was tasty (the first time)...

Good
  • Timetabled games had most people playing, at least for a while.
  • Power restrictions aren't enforced unless necessary (thank god).
  • Openness to flexibility in port blocking.
  • Everyone's friendly.
  • BIGTENT AND BACON AND COFEE!
  • Flare's sister.
Bad
  • Dodgy LAN cable (I joke somewhat).
  • Not enough people.
  • Shazz's punctuation and spelling skills.
  • BIGTENT was big and heavy for car :(
  • Port blocking is irritating.

Good

I was allowed to use my projector and console along with inflatable sofa for ceiling entertainment goodness.
Nice big games played.
Barbecue tasted good.

Bad

Would have liked larger selection of snacks onsite. Going down the road is not all that much hassle, but it's nice to only have to walk to the other side of the room.
Didn't feel as though there was much substance to the LAN. Needed something that little extra to make it seems something more than just some mates getting together to play games.

Good:
Awesome people....and Caroline
The servers for the big games not being Shazzed up for a change
4chan drinking game
Pub Quiz, especially with Sect's much better placings this year
Foods: BBQ was good as always and the new chinese was much better, shame the pizza guys were soo fail this time

Bad:
4chan drinking game (yes this is in both sections)
The comps not being taken all that seriously due to not really knowing what was going on (on my part anyway)
The usual problem of gamers being incredibly innacurate when pointing the pink pistol at the porcelain firing range

Ugly:
Flare
Jenovus

Not enough made of some big games... completely missed the TF2 and bf2 big games.
